Overview
Steganography is the art and science of hiding secret messages in such a way
that only the intended recipients know of its existence. Mail++ is a free service for
hiding confidential contents in images and sending these images via email over
the Internet. Contents consists of text messages, file attachments, web
pages and even windows applications. Images with hidden contents can be viewed with
any conventional image viewer software. They looked just like any other
images and with no loss in image quality.
Mail++
aims to build virtual communities where people with similar interests can
communicate and share secrets. Only the targeted audience can retrieve the
messages or contents. There will be no fear of unwanted people reading your
messages and contents hidden in the images.
An overview of Mail++ is shown in the figure below. Secret contents are
first encrypted into
images before an email is sent to the recipient. The contents in the image
are viewed and
accessed using PhotoViz. PhotoViz is a freeware with a set of imaging
tools to automatically fix common problems in digital photographs. Downloaded PhotoViz at
http://www.picsalive.com and install it. The recipient can send a reply to the sender
using the Mail++ website.
Public or non-members of Mail++ can only send secret text messages (or
Photo Messages). Users are encouraged to join the Mail++ community as
members. Members have more benefits like encrypting more content types.
Members can further protect their messages and contents by requiring the
recipient to enter a password.
